Spot the difference:

an editing experiment exploring ‘AI Fashion Imagery’ using Adobe Photoshop 2024 with model and actor Niamh Simpson.

As a photographer who has worked as both a costume designer and stylist in the past, I was intrigued by the possibilities of the new ‘AI generate’ tool in Adobe Photoshop 2024 for this shoot.

Niamh and I met last July for around an hour to shoot these photos in Oxford’s Natural History Museum and University Parks. Niamh glowed like an angel in this light, the setting was dramatic and I managed a few good shots (at the top of this page) which needed little editing.

And yet, I found myself thinking - can I make them more perfect? What would I change? How can I elevate this imagery?

So, this is an image I generated several AI fashion accessories. None of which, by the way, change Niamh’s body shape, facial structure, or general ‘look’. In reality, Niamh needed no ‘touching up’, they have naturally clear skin, modelesque aura and cool tattoos.

What was exciting, was that AI was generating jewellery and shoes which seemed to reflect the setting of The Natural History Museum. In particular, I like how this AI necklace seems to have some sort of petal or wing-like element behind Niamh’s neck. And these AI heels have texture which remind me of the animal skeletons behind Niamh or maybe a paper-y bee’s hive.

At least when it comes to shoot like this one, AI invites the editor to fantasise and exercise a level of experimentation in post which is fun and zero - budget.
